ercol Originals represent timeless design, passed down through generations. Designed by the ercol founder, Lucian Ercolani, who drew his inspiration from the Chiltern Hills and the industrious design trends of the 1920's.
Designed in 1956 by Lucian Ercolani, considered a progression from the Winsdor chair, the ever popular item features a large outward shaped elm seat. The unique shape, is a bent beech wood, which lends its design to the Windsor. Moulded seats and tapered legs give it an elegance that is enjoyed today, being a feature piece in many dining areas.
Using the strength of beech wood and the beauty of elm, Lucian managed to develop beautiful shapes in soft curves of the bows, complimenting the natrual colour and grain of the elm wood. The originals still today are achieving a position in the pantheon of classic design of the 20th century. Classic pieces by nature, they are seen as a staple of quality furniture. Their versatility and sheer craftsmanship is sought after today.
Sketches of the Loveseat, dating back to its conception
ercol is able to distance itself from its competition through its rich history of quality craftsmanship. Setting up his own factory in 1920, Lucian developed ercol eventually having two of his sons become joint managing directors. This generational theme is seen throughout ercol to this day, workers following in the footsteps of their parents and grandparents. The skill and the quality held paramount on ercols inception, still are the key values that make it a world renound brand today.
